Title card created by using the masking tool to animate the words to appear as handwritten on screen.

Evaluation:

After much consideration, I opted to change my original idea and merge this unit with another for convenience & practicality. I knew I wanted to create an animated title for my documentary work and combining the two units provided me with everything I needed to do so. Before starting to edit, I looked up a few online tutorials on how to use the masking tool to make the title appear as handwritten. After experimenting in a practice run, I was then confident enough to have a proper go at it. Since researching it, I was able to do this quite easily and have a few tries to discover what works best. I eventually found a flow that worked and replicated that for my final attempt, adding a little bit more speed to it. On reflection, I would have liked to maybe make it a bit faster to have a more cohesive feel to it although I’m still very happy with the results. If I were to have access to After Effects rather, than Final Cut Pro, I think I may have been able to create something a little more complex and interesting but given the circumstances, I feel this work is adequate and fits nicely with the content. Although, I am not familiar with AE which may have led to delays in production. As I am most familiar with FCP, I learned this new tool very quickly and produced a good quality result in time for the deadline. Now that I have experience with this tool, I will begin to incorporate it into my own work to give it a much more interesting approach.
